On our very first Disney World trip with my kids, when they were 9 months old and 2, we stayed at the Walt Disney World Dolphin. It ended up being one of the most convenient hotel stays we’ve had, but also one of the most overwhelming.

If you’re staying at Disney with young kids, the details matter more than you expect. Things like how far you have to walk, how easy it is to get around the hotel, and how quickly you can get food can make or break your day.

The Walt Disney World Dolphin checks a lot of important boxes for families: it’s walkable to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, it has the most dining options in the Swan and Dolphin complex, and you still get many of the same perks as a Disney Deluxe Resort, including Early Entry and Extended Evening Hours.

But once we were actually there, the experience felt a little different than I expected. Some parts made the trip easier, and some parts added more friction than I anticipated, especially with two very young kids.

Is the Walt Disney World Dolphin Worth It With Kids?

Yes, the Walt Disney World Dolphin can absolutely be worth it with kids, especially if dining options, walkability, and having everything in one place matter more to you than a calm, quiet resort feel.

The Dolphin made certain parts of the trip really easy. Being able to walk to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios took a lot of pressure off the day, and having so many restaurants and quick food options right inside the hotel meant I didn’t have to plan as much ahead.

It’s a great fit if:

You want the most dining options right at your hotel
You like having a more active, high-energy environment
You want everything in one place without needing to walk between buildings as much
You’re planning to spend a lot of time at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios

It might not be the best fit if:

You want a calmer, quieter environment with young kids
You prefer a smaller hotel that’s easier to navigate
You get overwhelmed by crowds or busy common areas
You want a more relaxed feel at the end of the day

For me, the convenience was a huge plus, but the overall energy of the hotel made it harder to manage at times with very young kids. It’s a great option, but it’s one where the trade-offs matter a little more depending on your travel style.

Location: EPCOT Resort Area

The Walt Disney World Dolphin is part of the Swan and Dolphin complex in the EPCOT Resort Area, which makes it one of the easiest places to stay if you’re planning to spend time at both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

We were able to walk to both parks, which made a huge difference with young kids. Not having to fold the stroller or wait for transportation, especially at the end of a long day, made everything feel a lot more manageable. There’s also a FriendShip Boat launch right outside the hotel that runs to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and Disney’s Beach Club Resort. It’s a fun option, especially if your kids enjoy the ride, but I found myself relying on the walking path most of the time because it was faster and more predictable.

The Dolphin also sits right in the middle of the Swan and Dolphin complex, which means you’re close to the largest concentration of restaurants, quick-service spots, and amenities. That made it really easy to adjust plans on the fly without needing to go far.

If you’re using a stroller at Disney, this location is one of the biggest advantages of staying here. Being able to walk to two parks and have everything close by takes a lot of pressure off the day.

The Room: Dated, but Easier in Some Ways With Kids

We booked a Fireworks View room without a balcony, and the view alone ended up being one of the best parts of our stay. Being able to watch EPCOT’s nighttime show from the room, especially once the kids were already ready for bed, felt like a huge win.

The room itself, though, definitely felt more dated. The carpet was worn, the lighting was a little dim, and there was a slightly damp, musty feel that you sometimes get in older hotels. It wasn’t the most polished space we’ve stayed in.

But in a way, that actually made things easier.

I wasn’t worried about the kids making a mess or being rough on anything, which took a layer of stress off. With toddlers, that made a bigger difference than I expected.

We also had enough space for the kids to move around and play a bit without everything feeling cramped. My daughter used the free crib provided by the hotel, which fit easily in the room between the bed and the window.

The bathroom was one of the biggest advantages of staying here. It had a traditional bathtub, which made bath time so much easier compared to the walk-in showers at many hotels these days. If your kids aren’t comfortable with showers yet, or you just want a simple end-of-day routine, this is something to seriously consider.

From a day-to-day standpoint, the room worked. It wasn’t the newest or nicest space, but it was functional, low-stress, and easy to manage, which mattered more than anything on that trip.

What It Actually Feels Like to Stay at the Dolphin

The Dolphin has a completely different feel from the other hotels in this complex. It’s the largest and busiest, and that shows up right away.

The lobby looks beautiful, but it felt loud, crowded, and a little overwhelming to me, especially with young kids. There’s a bar right in the center that stays busy into the evening, and the overall energy level is high. It’s not the kind of place that feels calm or quiet at the end of a long day.

At the same time, that energy is part of what makes the Dolphin so convenient. There’s always something going on, and you’re never far from food or activity. For some families, that’s a huge plus.

For me, it made certain parts of the stay easier, but it also added a layer of chaos that I had to work around.

Transportation: What You Actually Need to Know

Transportation at the Walt Disney World Dolphin is very similar to the rest of the Swan and Dolphin complex, but the size of the hotel makes a difference in how it feels day to day.

You can walk to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, which is one of the biggest advantages of staying here. It removes the need to fold the stroller or wait for buses, and that alone makes park days feel much simpler.

Walking from the Dolphin to EPCOT typically takes about 10 minutes at an adult pace, and a little longer with little legs or a stroller. Hollywood Studios is a little bit longer at about 15 to 20 minutes.

There’s also a FriendShip Boat launch right outside the hotel that runs to both parks and nearby resorts. It’s a fun option, especially with kids, but I found walking to be faster and more predictable most of the time.

For Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, you’ll use the Swan and Dolphin bus system. It works fine, but it’s not quite as seamless as Disney’s transportation. For Magic Kingdom, you’ll be dropped off at the Transportation and Ticket Center, which means taking either the ferry or monorail from there.

The elevators were farther away, down a hallway that felt confusing with a stroller.

Inside the hotel itself, getting around can take a little more effort. Because the Dolphin is so large, some of the entrances and pathways felt confusing at first. In certain areas, you enter at what feels like a lower level and then have to make your way through long hallways to reach the main lobby. With a stroller, the heavy use of escalators and less obvious elevator access made this part a bit frustrating.

It’s all manageable, but it’s not as intuitive as some of the smaller resorts.

Amenities and Dining (What You’ll Actually Use)

This is where the Dolphin really stands out.

There are more dining options here than anywhere else in the Swan and Dolphin complex. Between restaurants, quick-service spots, and snack locations, you have a lot of flexibility without ever needing to leave the building. If you’re traveling with kids who need quick, easy meals or have different preferences, that convenience makes a big difference.

We spent time at places like The Fountain Eats and Sweets, which was an easy, low-stress stop when we needed a break.

Room service is available, but it has to be ordered through the Swan and Dolphin mobile app, not the Marriott app. I didn’t use it during this stay, but it’s something to be aware of ahead of time if that’s part of your routine.

All three hotels share access to the main pool complex, Camp Dolphin kids’ club, watercraft rentals, outdoor movies, and more, so you’re not limited to just what’s inside the Dolphin.

Staying at the Dolphin With Kids: Pros and Cons

What I Loved:

The fireworks view from our room was incredible, especially with early bedtimes
Having so many dining options right inside the building made meals much easier to manage
The bathtub made bath time simple compared to the walk-in showers at the other hotels
Being able to walk to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios made the days feel much more manageable
The size of the property meant there was always something to do or explore
Everything being in one place meant less planning ahead for meals and breaks

What I Didn’t Love:

The lobby felt loud and chaotic at times, which was harder to manage with young kids
The room and hallways felt dated and had a slightly musty feel
The layout wasn’t very intuitive, and getting around with a stroller sometimes meant longer, more confusing walks

Disney Perks: What You Still Get

Even though the Dolphin isn’t a Disney-owned resort, it’s part of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin complex, which means you still get many of the same perks as a Disney Deluxe Resort stay.

That includes:

Early Theme Park Entry
Extended Evening Hours
Complimentary transportation, including boats and buses
Free theme park parking
Access to Disney golf course tee times

Those perks make a bigger difference than you might expect, especially when you’re trying to get into the parks early or stay later without feeling rushed.

Is the Dolphin Worth It With Kids?

Yes, but it really depends on the kind of stay you’re looking for.

The Walt Disney World Dolphin made certain parts of the trip much easier. Being able to walk to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, along with having so many dining options right inside the hotel, took a lot of pressure off the day-to-day logistics.

At the same time, it’s the busiest and most high-energy of the three hotels. The lobby is large and constantly active, and the overall feel leans more toward convention space than a calm, family-focused resort. For some families that won’t matter at all, but for me, it added an extra layer to manage with very young kids.

The room itself had an incredible fireworks view, which was such a gift with early bedtimes, but it didn’t feel as updated or polished as the other two hotels.

If having everything in one place and easy access to food is your top priority, the Dolphin is a great option. If you’re looking for something quieter and easier to navigate, the Swan or Swan Reserve might be a better fit.
